Before and After

Here is a recent job we did on 13th St in Ames, Iowa.

Our customer had a very old retaining wall essential in maintaining the integrity of the home’s foundation that was in bad shape. This wall is behind the house out of view. Their budget didn’t allow for a brand-new wall, so we assessed the integrity of the posts and found them to be solid.

As the wall is out of sight and functionality is all that matters, we repaired the wall at 15% of the cost of total replacement.

We raked back the river rock at the base of the wall and then tarped it to keep it clean during the construction process. We then excavated a trench at the base of the wall and replaced all of the missing or rotten boards. Then we added foundation-grade treated plywood over the repaired wall using premium- grade outdoor screws. Next, we laid a weeping tile at the base of the wall to facilitate drainage that will slow further deterioration. Finally covered the drainage tile with cleaned rock.

Not new, not flashy, but the wall again functions as intended at a very modest cost. The customer was ecstatic and told us to send anyone his way that might want a recommendation!

At A+Skidloader, we do our best to work within a customer’s budget.

Sometimes all that matters is functionality; not all jobs are required or need to be fancy and flashy.
